We are pleased to be able to offer you some of the finest dive sites in the Caribbean, ranging from shallow reef diving to deep coral canyons. The Meso American Barrier Reef stretches 500 miles from the bay of Honduras in the south to Isla Contoy north of Cancun. This reef is second in size only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
We have over twenty different dive sites within 5-10 minutes from our dock. We also offer longer 2 tank trips north to reefs at Paamul and Playa del Carmen, as well as trips south to additional reefs near Akumal. Dive trips to Cozumel can also be arranged through our shop.
Each day we depart for 1 or 2 tank dives (check availability) at 9:00 am, 11:30 and 2:00 pm. We value safe diving practices and bottom time, many of our dives last more than 60 minutes.
This part of the reef is a network of patch reefs at depths of 25 to 35 feet with stands of Elkhorn coral and formations of Boulder, Brain, and Plate corals. The inner reef is excellent for natural light photography and is home to schools of brilliantly colored tropical fish.
The Middle Reef
The middle reef is several miles in length and ranges in depth from 40 to 50 feet, making it ideal for long bottom time dives. The reef structure is well developed with coral caves and canyons. Elkhorn coral reaches toward the surface in many areas, like the spires of a cathedral.
The Outer Reef
Beginning at 60 feet in depth, the outer reef descends through canyons to 125 feet. Popular with experienced divers are sites on the ledge that afford excellent multi-level diving. One of the outer reef's attractions is the fabulous canyons and coral caves with black coral growing as shallow as 90 feet. The Mayan Riviera coast is the nesting area for the Loggerhead, Green, and Hawksbill turtles. A highlight of many dives is a close encounter with one of these beautiful creatures. Visibility averages 70 to 90 feet with little current. Water temperatures ranges from a comfortable 78 degrees in January to a warm 84 degrees in August.
For the Photographer
The aquatic life is ideal for macro photography. Shallow dive sites give you seemingly endless bottom time, so while our guides search for interesting subjects, you concentrate on your shots. There is a vast array of marine life including thousands of beautifully colored fish along with turtles, stingrays, Eagle Rays, Moray Eels, and Nurse Sharks.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling is a great activity for all ages to enjoy. We offer chartered snorkel trips to shallow, protected reefs for groups of 4 or more. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with friends and family. Prices include snorkel equipment and bottled water. We can arrange for snacks or you are welcome to bring your own. Please contact the shop if you would like to schedule a trip. In addition, there is snorkeling available from local beaches as well as cenotes and lagoons that are a short drive away. We rent and sell a wide range of snorkeling equipment.
